I feel sad when I think of my uncles passing. The saddest part is that he didn’t lead a memorable life. He did shift work in a steel company his whole life and when he retired he got sick and spend his last years sitting at home waiting to die.

Last night we watched the movie The Way which tells the story of an American doctor who goes to France to deal with the tragic loss of his son, who had been killed while hiking the famed pilgrimage route across Europe known as the Camino de Santiago. Rather than return home, the doctor decides to follow in his son’s footsteps and finish his journey. Through a variety of unexpected experiences along the way, he discovers the differences between “the life we live and the life we choose,” in the words of one of the characters in the film.

Need a challenge or more adventure in your life?

Dave from TLC has just competed in the challenging Coast to Coast race. This is a 240km race from Kumara to Sumner. Dave was made redundant from the corporate world a couple of years ago and found  fresh new challenges in health and fitness. He nailed his first marathon in 2011 and has gone on to tackle multiple sporting challenges. His move into fitness has given him a positive perspective on choices and challenges ahead.

Katie relished the opportunity and challenge to train and compete along side her Dad. How cool is that!!
